MIXING IT UP FOR “HERS-AND-HIS” PALATES
What style of Bourbons & American Whiskeys do most women prefer?  What kind of Bourbon & American Whiskey cocktails do male mixologists make?  When it comes to deciphering aromas, who “nose” best – men or women?  Bottom line, do you need a particular anatomy to enjoy America’s native spirit?
Join the Bourbon Women Association for answers to all these questions and more at the “Anatomy Academy”.  You will enjoy an evening of distinct American Whiskeys, Bourbons and bites designed to test and tickle both genders’ palates.
This special session will bring together the area’s best male and female bartenders and chefs to create memorable cocktails and small plates for an epic Bourbon battle of the sexes, plus a blind tasting of specialty Bourbons and American Whiskeys from Heaven Hill Distillery.
Research by the Bourbon Women Association’s debunks the notion that women prefer lighter, sweeter and lower proof Bourbon.  Turns out, women like higher-proof, robust and spicier Bourbons – and women like it neat.
According to Bourbon Women research, women tend to have better olfactory senses, which make them great mixologists. Men tend to be bolder while concocting cocktails.
The Anatomy Academy will put tongues to the test in a blind tasting to identify more than a dozen Bourbon & Whiskey-related flavors to see whether men or women have the sharper palate.
Attendees at the Anatomy Academy will also choose a favorite cocktail, and Bourbon Women will announce the winners chosen by the women and the men.  Our winning cocktail mixologists will receive the coveted “BW Mixologist Award”, presented by the KDA and Bourbon Women.
As a special bonus, Bourbon Women's president, Susan Reigler, will open some private selection bourbons she and sister BW board member Carla Carlton helped choose for a limited blind tasting.  Additionally, Heaven Hill Distillery will also provide a limited tasting of a rare Bourbons.
The Anatomy Academy will be held at the historic and newly renovated Louisville Water Tower along the banks of the Ohio River.  It’s a perfect location for those who take Bourbon with a splash!

Bourbon Brunch Send-off

Kentucky Derby Museum at historic Churchill Downs, 704 Central Ave., Louisville, KY 40208
Sunday, June 19th 10AM-1PM
$100

Kick off your Father's Day Sunday in style at world-famous Churchill Downs. Horse racing in Kentucky is rich in history, dating back to 1789 when the first race course was laid out in Lexington. However, it was almost 100 years later, in 1875, that Churchill Downs officially opened and began its tradition as "Home of the Kentucky Derby."  Take a guided tour of the legendary track and explore the tradition, history, hospitality and pride of the world-renown Kentucky Derby in the Kentucky Derby Museum. Hold on to your hats while experiencing “The Greatest Race,” a thrilling, larger-than-life 360-degree cinematic experience that will set your heart racing and your spirit soaring. Afterwards, sit down to a Southern brunch in the company of Churchill Downs’ resident Thoroughbred, Unreachable Star, and miniature horse, Winston, as you overlook the Oaks Garden Terrace. Enjoy a Bourbon Bloody Mary and sample some of your favorite Bourbons from your hosts--Jim Beam, Four Roses, and Maker's Mark--before you head out to the track to watch the races.

This event is a great end to the Kentucky Bourbon Affair and a fantastic gift for dad on Father's Day.
