Event Description

Overview: An opportunity to network, share successes and challenges in documentary filmmaking, and provide feedback to several filmmakers on their trailers.

The Documentary Roundtable is a joint program of Docs In Progress and Women and Film and Video. These free meetings switch off between Washington DC and Silver Spring. The Washington DC meetings are organized by Women in Film and Video and are focused on getting expert advice on topics related to documentary filmmaking. The Silver Spring meetings are organized by Docs In Progress and focused on peer feedback. Both meetings include time for networking.

ALL Documentary Roundtable meetings are FREE only for members of WIFV or Docs In Progress Docs Insiders Premium Members. They are $10 for all others.  If you are a WIFV member or Docs Insider, use the Promo Code which has been provided to you.

Tonight’s meeting is facilitated by Docs In Progress alums Simone Faryand Richard Hall.  As an antidote to the documentary filmmaker working in isolation, it’s a brainstorming, networking, and support group all wrapped up in one.  This is an opportunity to meet others in the documentary community and share your latest successes, challenges, and tips on documentary filmmaking.

6:30 PM - 7:00 PM - Informal Networking

7:00 PM - 7:15 PM - Introductions. Participants will briefly introduce themselves and talk about what they are currently working on.

7:15 PM - 8:30 PM - Feedback Spotlight: Several pre-selected members of the group will show a trailer or 10 minute segment from a work-in-progress and seek guidance from others in the group on strategies for next steps with the project.

8:30 PM - 9:00 PM - Informal Discussion and Networking

Two community members have been selected through a submission process to share trailers or scenes from their documentaries in development for feedback from others in the room. The two films are:

ACJ Health Justice Project
by James Tedrow
The Allegheny County Jail faces community outcry over its high death rate and allegations against a for-profit healthcare contractor which failed to provide adequate care for inmates.

Homelessly in Love
by Lalita Clozel

While food, shelter and clothing are often considered the primary needs of the homeless, what about love? Follow the lives of homeless singles, couples, ad families as they share their heartbreaks and hardships about love, passion and relationships.
